Day and night shades are extremely popular these days due to the fact that they provide consumers with the best of both worlds. A great pair of day and night shades can help with light control, though can also give you an ample amount of privacy when you need it most. Of course, with so many types of day and night shades on the market, you need to consider certain things when trying to find the right day and night shades for your home.
Day and night shades are window treatments that provide the advantages of light-filtering shades and blackout shades combine into one. Improve your decor and get the amount of light that you need depending on how you set your shade up.
The benefits of day and night shades:
● Versatile design with flexible customization options
● Unique 2-in-1 construction with a combination of blackout and light-filtering fabrics
● Provides both energy efficiency and privacy
● Easily switch back and forth between blackout and light-filtering depending on the amount of light you want
Day and night shades have an incredibly unique style compared to other types of window treatments out on the market today. Some day and night shades are a mixture of roller shades and Venetian shades with a single layer of blackout material and another layer of sheer material. There are also many other materials, textures, and designs that you can choose from besides that as well.
You may choose to combine a neutral white color with a vibrant blue or red color, for example. With strong contrast, you can create a unique visual aesthetic for a pop of personality in any room. Beyond that, you can combine a wide variety of colors, tones, textures, patterns, and more, all to suit the decor that is already within your home.
Day and night shades come in a variety of fabrics, perfect for those who have a very specific design in mind. If you’d like, you can combine your day and night cordless cellular shades with a pelmet finish, giving you matching or contrasting colors that look perfect with the rest of the shade.
Because day and night shades use two materials with different opacity, the fabric ends up looking a bit different, even if both of the materials are made with the same color.
Thanks to the way natural light hits fabric with varying opacity, you get a unique look regardless.
Versatility
With day and night shades, you’re in total control. Whether you want to block out as much light as possible, let a slight amount of light in during the day, or maintain just a bit of privacy, you can do so with day and night cellular shades. One of the best things about day and night shades is that they combine the best qualities of darkening and light-filtering fabrics.
Whenever you need a little bit of light, though want to maintain privacy, you can push down the middle bar that sits between the two fabrics. When you need more light blockage, you can push the middle bar up.
Day and Night Shades Work For Any Environment
While we often recommend custom day and night shades for bedrooms, as they allow for light during the day and complete light blockage for those that have trouble sleeping at night, there are many situations where day and night shades can be effective.
Offices are another great example of where one might choose to install day and night shades. You can manage how much light you want to allow into your office space at one time, giving you the best productivity possible when you are working.
Different Mounting Options
When you choose day and night cell shades, you have the option to choose between two different types of mounting. The inside mount hangs within the window and is the most common day and night window treatment option out there.
Some people go for outside mounts, on the other hand, which you mount on the outside of the window casing. Outside mounts work really well for windows that are very shallow or windows that have crank mechanisms to open and close them.
When it comes to measuring, you must first consider which type of mount you want and measure from there.
Inside Mount Measurements
The first thing that you will need to take a look at when measuring for inside mount day and night cell shades is the mounting depth.
To get the value of the mounting depth, you must take a measurement of the depth of the window frame from wall to glass. When shopping for inside mount day and night window treatments, this measurement is a necessity. Most window treatments have a very specific depth requirement.
Once you’ve got your measurement, you might find that you have very shallow windows, meaning outside mounts might be the best choice for you.
● Width: When it comes to measuring the width, you have to measure in three places, including the top, middle, and bottom. Make sure to take a note of the most narrow measurement of the three and round that measurement up to the nearest ⅛”.
● Height: When measuring the height, you will also need to look at the center, left, and right. Again, make sure to take note of the tallest height and round that specific measurement to the nearest ⅛”.
Of course, always make sure to keep in mind that the factory might carry out small deductions as well, which help the shades work properly in a given situation. Look carefully at the measurements of day and night shades prior to ordering them.
Outside Mount Measurements
● Width: Start by getting the measurement of the opening of the window and add 3” on both sides. Doing so will ensure the window is entirely covered, which will provide you with the best light blockage possible, as well as much better privacy overall.
● Height: Get the measurement of the opening of the window up to the sill. Once you have that measurement, add 2.5” to accommodate for and mounting brackets or headrails that will need a bit of additional space. You may also want to add another few inches for bottom overlap.
Do note that if you decide to go with outside mounts and you have window molding, you should place your mount above where your molding sits. Make sure to account for that additional clearance depth when searching for an outside mount. You can ask our sales associates here at Affordable Blinds to help you find the best option according to your necessary measurements.
As we said before with the inside mount, it is very important to consider that different products may have different variations. However, the measurement details that we have given you here should work for most day and night shades in our inventory.
Motorized Lift Options Available
While there are traditional corded and modern cordless options available with most of our custom day and night shades, we also offer motorized lift shades. Motorized lift options can be controlled remotely, allowing users to raise and lower their window shades without ever having to touch them.
Motorized lift options for your shades can be a major convenience to many, though can be an absolute necessity for some. If you have hard-to-reach windows, for example, having the ability to raise and lower the shades with the press of a button could be a lifesaver. You may have physical limitations that deter you from opening and closing your window shades as well.
Whatever the case, you may choose to amp up your day and night shades with one of our high-quality motorized options.
If a motorized window shade isn’t necessary for you, you may choose to go with one of our cordless options. Though these shades are slightly more in price, they provide a safe and aesthetically pleasing mode of operation, perfect for modern households. Not only will your windows have a much cleaner and sleeker look without cords hanging off of them, but these shades will also be much safer in homes with small children and pets, where cords are known to be choking hazards.
